Largest selection of genuine antique weapons for sale in UK. See our website andrewbottomley.com. Ref 3242. An original rare French 3.25 inch miniature percussion pistol. Circa 1835. 1 inch iron octagonal barrel. Wooden stock. Iron hammer and iron ring trigger. Overall length 3.25 inches. It is understood that the manufacture of miniature pistols was a test for the apprentice gunsmith. If the apprentice could create a working weapon on a half scale or even less it meant that manufacturing and repairing full size pistols was not a problem for them. They also could have been made as samples for sellers, making it easy to carry a dozen miniatures rather than the full-sized ones. Another reason that is known for certain was to be used as gifts for Dignitaries and visitors. Miniature pistols can be seen in many collections, in particular the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Action in working order. In used condition but a rare example of a miniature pistol from the 1830's. Ref 3242.This is an obsolete antique item and is sold as a collectors item only.
