Description

Largest selection of genuine antique weapons for sale in UK. See our website andrewbottomley.com. Ref 3261. A fine single barrelled British Flintlock Duelling pistol made by Gurd of London. Circa 1790-1810. The lock plate engraved with the makers name Gurd. The 12 inch browned octagonal barrel with a front sight and engraved London to the top. Steel ram-rod pipes and trigger guard. Wooden horn tipped ram-rod. Set trigger. Silver oval escutcheon to the grip. Overall length 18 inches. Action in good working order. In good condition. Duelling had been the way officers and gentlemen settled matters of honour for centuries. Up until the mid-19th century there were certain situations where a meeting with pistols or swords was seen not just a possible response to a perceived insult but the only honourable thing to do. Men risked being ostracised from society for not issuing a duelling challenge in response to an insult. A nice honest flintlock duelling pistol and a part of English history. Ref 3261. This is an obsolete antique item and is sold as a collectors item only. No Licence is required in the United Kingdom. If you wish to purchase this item please visit our website andrewbottomley.com where you can pay by credit/debit card. Established 1968.
