A very fine pair of classic Flintlock duelling pistols made by the IRISH gunmaker RAINSFORD of DUBLIN. (Sometimes referred to as RANSFORD) circa 1757-1790. James RAINSFORD had a workshop in Castle Yard Dublin. James Rainsford had continued the gun-making business of his father Michael Rainsford (worked in DUBLIN circa 1735-1757). Both pistols in very good condition with much original browned finish remaining to the barrels. Circa 1790. This fine set of pistols are both fitted with set-triggers which was highly desired in duelling pistol manufacture at this time. The pistols have rain-proof pans & gold touch-holes. Finely engraved trigger- guards. The 9 inch octagonal barrels have much of the original browning and are engraved on top "DUBLIN". Set triggers, steel trigger guards and two iron ramrod pipes fitted with their original wooden ramrods. Calibre approx .62. The pistols are 15 inches long. Good condition.
