American Remington W.S. Smoot’s 1873 Patent 1st Model Nickel Plated .38 Rim Fire Obsolete Calibre 5 Shot Single Action Revolver With Captive Steel Ejector Rod & Gutta Percha Grips. Sn 17641:5 - 17641:5

The Remington-Smoot revolver was intended to compete with Colt's metallic cartridge pocket revolvers. These five-shot pistols are typically seen with a nickel-plated finish, although a blued finish was also offered. This is a very good original example of the Smoot 1st Model revolver (1st Models had a more curved grip frame rather than the flat grip frame butt found on 2nd models). It has its original factory nickel plated finish which has areas of surface wear to be expected with age. The revolver has a 3 ¾” octagonal barrel with top rib (8” overall). The top of the barrel is crisply engraved 'E.Remington & Sons, Ilion.NY Pat W.S. Smoot Oct 21 1873' (illustrated). The bore has just light training consistent with age and use and has crisp rifling. It has a shrouded trigger, fluted cylinder, blade fore sight and grooved notch frame rear sight. The single action firing mechanism works as it should. The original gutta percha hard rubber grips with chequered panels are secure and undamaged. The pistol is complete with original sprung ejector rod on the right side of the frame. There are no exterior visible serial numbers on this pistol. The price includes UK delivery. NB As an antique obsolete calibre revolver no licence is required to own this item in the UK if retained as part of a collection or display. Sn 17641:5
