Cased, Victorian C1850's Robert Adams, London, 54 Bore Five Shot Double Action Percussion Revolver With Accessories. Sn 18184 - 18184

Robert Adams (1809–1880) was a 19th-century British gunsmith who patented the first successful double-action revolver in 1851. His revolvers were used during the Crimean War, the Indian Mutiny, the U.S. Civil War, and the Anglo-Zulu War. Adams produced Tranter Patent revolvers. This is an excellent, original, cased, Adams 5 shot percussion revolver. The weapon's double action firing mechanism works as it should in both single and double action. It has a 5 ½” octagonal barrel (12” overall). The bore is near mint, clean & bright with crisp rifling. The barrel has a blade fore sight & notched frame rear sight. The top of the frame and top barrel flat are crisply marked 'Robert Adams 76 King William Street, London'. The frame is engraved Adams Patent No.40266’. The cylinder has matching number. The barrel and cylinder have Victorian black powder proofs. It’s finely chequered walnut grip is in excellent undamaged condition. The pistol's metal work is undamaged with original un-touched blue finish which has light surface wear to be expected with age and use. Its loading lever works as it should. The pistol is contained in its original wood case with hinged lid. The top of the lid is inlaid with a void central brass roundel. The case has a brass lock with key (the key fits in the lock but does not turn the lock mechanism). The case is lined with green felt and has a Robert Adams trade label. The case has compartments which contain accessories including a double brass and steel conical bullet mould numbered ‘54’, a copper and brass black powder flask which signed by the manufacturer ‘C&JW Hawksley’, 2 ebony handled tools, cleaning rod, a white metal oil container with screw top lid and integral applicator & a small number of moulded lead balls.(the base of the container is signed ‘James Dixon & Sons Sheffield’. The price for this cased pistol with accessories includes UK delivery. NB As an antique percussion revolver no licence is required to own this item in the UK if retained as part of a collection or display. Sn 18184
