A circa 1840-1855 socket bayonet for the India Catch complete with brown leather scabbard. The bayonet dates to between 1840-1855 as Indian socket bayonets were changed to the locking ring style in the years following Britain's adoption of the pattern 1853 bayonet. It is 19.75"overall with a blade length of 15.75" and a socket length of 3". The M.R.D. is 23.9mm. The blade is stamped with the makers name of "S. Hill". The scabbard is brass mounted brown leather and the top chape carries the number "182". (see Skennerton's 'British & Commonwealth Bayonets' book item 126, page 328.) The price includes UK delivery.
