    Rare, C1800 English Saynor’s Double Barrel, Over & Under, Double Barrel, Tap Action, 40 Bore, Flintlock Travelling Pistol With Screw Off Barrels & Folding Bayonet. Sn 14656 - 14656

    This is a rare C1800 brass framed over & under, tap action Flintlock Travelling Pistol. It's round steel screw off barrels are 3" in length (8 ¾” overall with bayonet closed, 11 ½” overall with bayonet open). The barrels are unscrewed by placing a specially made tool into notched cut into the muzzles of the barrels (we do not have the tool). The smooth bores have staining and residue consistent with age. The muzzle diameter of each barrel is 12.41mm (approx. 40 Bore). The underside of the bottom barrel is fitted with a 2 ½” folding triangular section blade bayonet. The bayonet block has a sprung steel release button to allow the bayonet to fold into the closed position. When closed the tip of the bayonet fits into a notch in the front of the trigger guard. The bayonet is released and flicks open by bulling the trigger guard to the rear. Its heavy steel frame is nicely engraved on both sides with a banners & arms motifs. On the left side the motif bears the maker’s or retailer’s name 'Saynor’s'. The trigger guard is engraved with a foliate design. It has a steel slide safety, steel pan and hammer which is fitted with a flint. The pistol's bag shaped finely walnut grip is undamaged. The bottom of the barrel block has crisp black powder proofs. The pistol cocks and dry fires perfectly and the tap action operated by a rounded lever on the left side of the pan functions perfectly. Price for this rare desirable pistol worthy of further research re the maker or retailer includes UK delivery. NB as an antique flintlock pistol no licence is required to own this item in the UK if retained as part of a collection or display. Sn 14656
