Description

**SCARCE**TRANSITIONAL PROTOTYPE**Original WW2 Era Commando, Smooth Solid Steel Hilt, Fairbairn Sykes FS Fighting Knife With Original Quality Made Scabbard. Sn 20691 - 20691

This is an original smooth steel hilted Fairbairn Sykes fighting knife most likely made as a prototype during the transition from 1st pattern to 2nd pattern FS production during WW2. The knife is superbly made and is obviously of the weight and quality of a period fighting knife. Its polished steel hilt has no knurling or ribs as found on 1st, 2nd and 3rd pattern variants and we can find no record of this variant. It has a 172mm long clean, polished steel blade with medial ridge. There are no maker, date or inspection marks on the knife. It has a straight oval steel cross guard as found on 2nd and 3rd pattern variants. It is complete with original quality made leather scabbard with external blackened steel chape and throat mount with frog locket. The rear of the scabbard is fitted with 4 sewn on leather tabs as found on other FS fighting knife scabbards. The price for this rare protoype worthy of further reseach includes UK delivery Sn 20691
