This is an excellent brass flintlock pocket pistol made C1815. The pistol has a steel hammer and frizzen. The brass frame is signed by the maker ‘Sharpe’ on one side within Martial banners and arms. The reverse ‘London’ within Martial banners & arms (most likely William Sharpe a London based gunmaker recorded at Church Lane 1814, Everards Place 1816-1824 and Mansell Street 1826-184, see page 201 of Brown’s book British Gunmakers Vol.1). The pistol measures 6 ¾” overall & has a 2” screw off brass barrel. The barrel’s smooth bore is clean. The pistol has a concealed folding trigger & crisp black powder proofs on the underside of the action. The action and barrel are numbered ‘1’. The pistol has a safety bolt and the hammer is fitted with flint. It has an undamaged bag shape walnut stock. The back of the stock has an inlaid silver escutcheon. The pistol’s action is strong.
