Description

Large, Victorian Sheffield Apprentice Cutler’s Piece Bowie Knife With Scalloped Decoration & Scabbard. Sn 16539. - 16539

Throughout knife making history it has been common practice for apprentice cutlers to hone their knife making skills by making both miniature and full size knives. This is an excellent Victorian era large, Sheffield form Bowie knife with hand tooled scalloped decoration no doubt a Sheffield apprentice cutler’s piece. It has thick wood scales secured by brass pins. The bottom edge of both scales have scalloped decoration which also assists grip. It has a large brass cross guard also with hand tooled scalloped decoration. It has a heavy 10” single edged, steel Bowie blade. The back of the blade has matching hand tooled scalloped decoration. The blade has just light staining consistent with age & the knife measures 15” overall length. As is common with apprentice pieces there are no maker marks on the knife. The knife comes with its later quality bespoke Saddler handmade open top leather scabbard with rear belt loop. The Bowie fits the scabbard snugly. The price includes UK delivery. Sn 16539
