This is an early first model Luftwaffe Officers Sword, circa 1938.
The blade is 36 inches (0.91 m) long and the scabbard is 29 inches (0.74 m) long.
The blade is as good as you are ever likely to find on an Early First Model Luftwaffe Officers Sword and is made from nickelled silver steel and carries the Solingen makers mark, Solingen Metallwarren Fabrik and the government acceptance stamp of a framed number 5.
The sword fits tight in its original blue Morrocan leather scabbard, that has a few scuffs but which is also as good as you could hope to find on an Early First Model Luftwaffe Officers Sword
All the sword and scabbard fittings are in nickel silver or aluminium, and the sword grip and washer are also the original blue Morrocan leather with silver wire on the grip that is also original and as good as the day it was made.
The cross guard arm is tapered downward with fine feathering and crisp detail with a circular sun wheel swastika in the centre on both sides.
The pommel has a large circular sun wheel swastika on both sides with oak leaves and acorns on the outer edge, this type of pommel was not a standard fitting but had to be ordered and cost extra.
All the swastikas still retain some original gold wash.
