~ Circa 1550 Spanish Plug Bayonet ~
This is a Spanish plug bayonet dating to circa 1550, it has a triple fuller blade; the blade has an illustration of a griffin on one side of the blade and a lion on the other side.
This has a wooden handled grip which has serrated edges all along the handle.
The pommel is metal and has a half barrel like shape to it. This is a plug bayonet which has a rounded handle designed to fit in to the barrel of a musket.
~ Dimensions ~
The blade has a length of 7.75 inches (19.5cm), the bayonet has an overall length of 12.25 inches (31 cm). The widest part of the grips diameter measures 1 inches (2.5cm). It weighs 220 g.
~ Condition ~
The blade has some areas of pitting but remains in good order while the illustrations are quite clear. The wooden grip has some bruising and a several moth holes to one side but remains in otherwise good condition.
