The Springfield Model 1861 was a Minié ball type rifled musket shoulder-arm used by the United States Army and Marine Corps during the American Civil War. These rifles were the most widely used U.S. Army weapon during the Civil War, favoured for its range, accuracy, and reliability. It was in service between 1861 and 1872.The rifles were also used during the American Indian Wars. This is an original U.S. Army Springfield Model Of 1861 Percussion Rifled Musket. It’s all original American walnut stock has knocks, bumps & bruises to be expected. It measures 56” overall with a 40" barrel. The barrel’s bore has crisp rifling and just staining and residue consistent with age and use. The weapon has its original block & blade fore sight and graduated flip up leaf rear sights, heavy military hammer, steel butt plate stamped with ‘U.S.’ (Army acceptance mark), sling swivels and steel ram rod. The action plate is marked with the American Eagle which is holding arrows in its right claw - indicates that it was made during a period when America was at war, on this occasion with itself. (Peace time left claw) together with ‘U.S’ Army. mark & ‘Springfield’. The tail of the action plate is dated ‘1862’. The wood has a Springfield factory inspector’s mark (illustrated). The weapon’s cocking and firing actions work perfectly. The price includes UK delivery.
