This is a superb WW1 German Officer's presentation sword, the 83.5cm pipeback blade has beautiful blued and gilt acid etched detailing and is decorated with a presentation inscription 'Und setzt ihr nicht das Leben ein, nie wird euch das Leben gewonnen sein' (and if you don't risk your life, your life will never be gained) and also decorated with an Iron Cross dated 1914 and marked by the maker J.A Henckels Solingen. The reverse has gilt and blued etching with Martial banners and arms. It has a wire bound fish skin grip in excellent condition and pierced guard. The hilt has a small original leather tab loop and leather hilt washer. The black steel scabbard has a single hanging ring fitted with sprung clasp and leather strap with buckle and gilt Lion’s head bosses. The price for this excellent piece includes UK delivery.
