SCARCE, All MATCHING NUMBERS, 1877 Swedish Remington Rolling Block 12.7x 48R Obsolete Centre Fire Calibre Carbine With Full Stock In Laid With 1878 Dated 2 Kronor Coin. Sn 17305 - 17305
The Remington Rolling Block rifles and carbines were breech-loading weapons produced from the mid-1860s into the early 20th century by E. Remington and Sons (later Remington Arms Company). The weapons were made in America and under licence in Europe. The action of these weapons were extremely strong, and could easily withstand the increased pressure of the new smokeless powders coming into use by the late 1880s. This is an excellent original Swedish Remington rolling block carbine. The metal has ‘Crown H’, ‘CK’ and ‘JG’ stamps most likely factory inspectors marks. The right side of the frame is dated '1877', the left side, barrel and wood have matching numbers ‘1951'. It has an 18” blued barrel which has a clean bore with crisp rifling (34” overall), an external hammer, steel butt plate, winged blade fore sight and adjustable rear sight graduated ‘250’, ‘300’ & ‘350’ metres. The metal is undamaged and has even patina throughout. The wood full stock is all original and has just the bumps and bruises to be expected with age and use. The stock is neatly inlaid with an 1878 dated 2 Kronor coin. The loading and firing actions of the carbine work crisply. The price for this scarce carbine includes UK delivery. NB As an obsolete calibre antique rifle no licence is required to own this rifle in the UK if retained as part of a collection or display. Sn 17305
