**ALL MATCHING NUMBERS INCLUDING BOLT**, Swiss Military Schmidt-Rubin Model 1889 7.5 x 53.5 mm Obsolete Centre Fire Calibre Straight Pull Rifle With Removable Swiss Military Brass & Steel Fore Sight / Muzzle Protector Cap, Sling, Bayonet Scabbard & Frog. - 18673:2

In 1882 Eduard Rubin began testing the first small-calibre copper-jacketed bullet which could successfully withstand high velocities. In 1885, this round was combined with Rudolf Schmidt's first straight-pull action resulting in the Swiss, Schmidt-Rubin Model 1889 7.5 x 53.5 mm Rifle. This is a superb example with excellent wood and metal work throughout. It measures 51 ½” overall with a 31" barrel. The bore is near mint, clean and bright with crisp rifling. The stock & metal are stamped with Swiss Military marks (illustrated). The breech housing, barrel, bolt, butt plate and magazine are stamped with matching serial numbers '159458 /458'. It is complete with bayonet bar, sling swivels, adjustable rear sight, block & blade fore sight & removable brass & steel fore sight / muzzle protector cap. The brass is stamped with Swiss Cross Military mark. Its cocking and firing actions work crisply. The rifle comes with an original Swiss Schmidt Rubin, bayonet and scabbard with frog. The bayonet is in excellent condition. The smooth grips are of light wood and secured with two rivets. The polished steel pommel has a sprung push button bayonet release which works perfectly. It has a cross guard with muzzle ring numbered ‘291631’. The cross guard has the 'Swiss Cross' stamp. The ricasso is stamped by the manufacturer 'Waffenfabrik Neuhausen'. The double edged polished steel blade with fullers is clean and measures 11 ¾” (16 ½” overall). The scabbard is black metal and is fitted with an original leather frog which has a retaining strap with eyelet that fastens to a large alloy stud on the frog. The rear of the frog is impressed with manufacturer mark ‘Jotter And Cossonay’ above ‘63’. The price includes UK delivery. NB As an obsolete calibre antique firearm no licence is required to own this item in the UK if retained as part of a collection or display. Sn 18673:2
