Description

The Tirah Campaign, often referred to in British Raj accounts as the Tirah Expedition, was a North West Indian frontier War in 1897?98. Tirah is a mountainous tract of country. In the Khyber, Afridis attacked the British poss and after setting some of the British forts on fire, they also extended a helping hand to the Orakzais in besieging the Samana posts. The control of the Khyber Pass was completely lost and it took quite a while for the British to restore their authority in the Khyber. This is an excellent original Sword/Knife used by Afghan/ Afridi tribesmen. It has a 19" single edged T section blade (24" overall). It has grooved horn slab grips with light scroll etching. The grips are retained by steel rivets. The handle has a twisted wire band attached to it. The wire has a small contemporary white linen label attached bearing the hand written words 'Tirah 1897'. There is a small hole in the metal of the cross guard which is stabilised and the grips are totally secure. Price for this great historic piece from the British Raj's North West Frontier campaigns includes UK delivery. Sn 7948
