    Pistol / Hand GunsDeringerUsed£ 875

Original C1860’s English Tipping & Lawden Sharps Patent .30 Rim Fire Calibre 4 Barrelled Nickel Plated Brass Framed Pocket Derringer. Sn 14854 - 14854

4 barrelled derringer pistols pistols were made by the American Sharps Company beginning with their 1859 Patent. Their Patents were used by other manufacturers both in America and Britain to make quality pistols. Tipping & Lawden were one of the 20 members of the Birmingham Small Arms Trading Company Limited (along with Hollis & Sheath, Joseph Swinburn and Thomas Turner forming the "big four"). Tipping & Lawden were taken over by Webley & Scott in 1887. This is an original Sharps Patent 4 barrelled pocket derringer in .30 RF calibre by Tipping & Lawden. It is a fully functioning example. The pistol’s barrel cluster has 4 x 3" blued steel rifled barrels and measures 5 ¾” overall. The barrel cluster has some areas of old, stable pitting which has been treated and re-blued at some point in its life. The frame is nickel plated brass. It has a brass bead fore sight and grooved frame rear sight. The left side of the frame is stamped 'Tipping & Lawden Sharps Patent '. The underside of the barrel cluster near to the muzzle is numbered '4162'. The barrel cluster has small black powder proofs. It has a revolving firing pin and loading is achieved by depression of a steel button at the underside of the frame, the barrel cluster can then be moved forward for loading of rounds. It has a shrouded trigger & original undamaged gutta percha hard rubber grip embossed with a foliate design. The rifled bores of the barrels are clean with well defined rifling. Its loading cocking and firing actions work as they should. The price includes UK delivery. NB As an antique obsolete calibre weapon no licence is required to own this item in the UK if retained as part of a collection or display. Sn 14854
