UNIQUE WW1 British 6 Medal Group To Private H. 6304 Dixon, Royal Warwickshire Regiment, Recorded As Participating in the ‘WW1 1914 CHRISTMAS TRUCE’ Famous For The Impromptu ‘No Man’s Land Football Match’. Sn 12391 - 12391

No complete list of soldiers who took part in the iconic WW1 Christmas truce of 1914 exists, however a booklet produced in 1999 by war researchers Alan Cleaver and Lesley Park called ‘Operation Plum Puddings’ (now out of print) contained a partial list of individual participants in the truce which lasted through Christmas night and in some areas continued through to New Year’s day. During the truce which was frowned upon by Senior Officers of both sides, soldiers from British & German trenches left their positions & exchanged gifts including alcohol and cigarettes. An impromptu football match is famously reported to have been played in no man’s land. This is a unique opportunity to own a superb medal group to a British Soldier included in the list of Soldiers who participated in the ‘1914 Christmas Truce’. The medal group is to Private 6403 H. Dixon of the Royal Warwickshire Regiment ( A printed extract from the list reproduced by the historical researchers ‘Spirit of Remembrance’ which bears Private Dixon’s name, together with more detail about the circumstances of the truce accompanies this medal group) . Private Dixon had a well travelled and distinguished Military career which is evidenced by the medals contained in this group. The medals consist of his Boer war South Africa 1902 Medal, India North West Frontier 1908 Medal With bar, WW1 1914 British Expeditionary Force (BEF) Medal with ‘Mons’ Bar, his Long Service & Good Conduct medal with a BEF original award certificate dated 1915 & his 2 WW1 service Medals. All of the medals bear Private Dixons correct service number, however, his name is spelt incorrectly as ‘Dickinson’ on the rim of his South Africa medal. (This name change is confirmed in his papers) All of the medals have their correct original ribbons and are mounted in a wooden glazed frame on a green felt backing. The frame measures 10”x10”x ½”. The frame is also accompanied by an original period black & white photograph of Private Dixon in uniform. In the image Private Dixon is wearing his South Africa & North West Frontier Medals. The rear of the photograph has contemporary hand writing ‘March 9 1912’. Price for this medal group worthy of further research includes UK delivery. Sn 12391
