This is a rare example of a well preserved Afrika Korps Officer desert cap. The orange colour code indicates this is a Military Police piece.
An even more unusual feature is that this particular piece is made in Rome. A small number were made in Italy towards the end of the desert conflict. Just a few survived.
The cap is marked inside with the manufacturer’s stamp “Cofadinii Roma”, the manufacturing year “43” and number “57”.
The silver braid is quite worn at the front because of the goggles the officer would’ve used on regular bases.
