**MINT BORES**Cased, Victorian English, Thomas Blissett Liverpool, 12 Bore Pin Fire Obsolete Calibre, Double Damascus Barrels, Side Lever Break Action, Shotgun With Needhams London Patent Hinged Fore Stock. Sn 18394 - 18394

Thomas Blissett was an English Gunsmith with premises at 38 South castle Street and 11 Water Street, Liverpool between 1834 and 1870 (see page 174 of Brown’s book British Gunmakers Vol 2). This is an excellent quality 12 Bore pin fire double barrel shotgun made by Blissett. It has a side lever action and original Walnut furniture with finely chequered wrist and forestock. The underside of the stock has a void silver disc escutcheon. The shotgun with double 29 ¾”, 12 Bore Damascus steel barrels. The smooth bores are near mint, clean and bright. The barrel rib has the maker’s name and Liverpool address. The underside of the barrel and action has black powder proofs and it’s patented hinged fore stock is stamped ‘Needhams London Patent', there is also a number which appears to be ‘51’ (all illustrated). The shotgun has double hammers & triggers, brass post fore sight and grooved action rear sight. It measures 46 ½” overall. The lever, side plates, hammers and trigger guard with extended tang have foliate engraved decoration. The action plates are signed ‘T. Blissett’ and have hunting dog scenes. The break action and firing action of the weapon work crisply. The shotgun is contained in its period hard leather covered wood transit case with carry handle and retaining straps with buckles and carry handle. The heavy duty case has a brass lock (key absent). The edges of the case have some wear and separated stitching. The case contains a period, purpose made felt lined removable wooden tray which has compartments to fit the rifle when broken down and accessories. Removing the tray exposes more compartments in the base of the case for additional accessories. The price for this quality cased shotgun includes UK delivery.
