Victorian Infantry Officers Sword. 1854 Pattern Infantry Officers Sword. Swords

    BladesSwordsUsed£ 650

This is a top-quality Victorian Infantry Officers Sword that was made for use on active service.

This would have been a very expensive sword when it was made as it is of the highest quality.
The sword was retailed by Hobson and son's of Little Windmill Street, London, a renowned military retailer for officers at that time.
The sword has a 32" blade that has a few nicks in the cutting edge that are contemporary to the sword and the overall length is 38" and carries the six-pointed seal of Solomon, used by British sword makers as a sign of quality since 1827.
The sword blade has a fuller and ends in a spear point and is engraved with the owners name: E.R. De Haviland, who I believe was a member of the famous De Havilland family, who over time used both one and two L's in De Havilland.
It is very rare to find swords with the owners name engraved on the blade and as the owner of the sword has been dead for over one hundred years, you can obtain his full military records which will detail his postings, promotions and decorations.
The sword has a fabulous brass scabbard and hilt with the cipher for Queen Victoria and the Shark skin grip is original and in very good condition as is the leather washer.
I firmly believe that this is a museum-quality sword and you could not buy a better sword at the price of this one, which would be a great focal point display piece so no offers are accepted on the price, which includes UK postage by Parcel Force.
