These heavy bladed bolo knife / machetes were issued to U.S. Marines Medical Corpsmen and were made by a number of American companies during WW2 (see page 41 of ‘U.S. Military Knives Book III’ by Cole). Our example is in excellent condition The blade is 11 ¼” long, 2 ¾” at its widest point and 16 ½” overall length. The heavy blade is ¼” thick and has just light areas of staining consistent with age. The blade is stamped by the American manufacturer ‘Village Blacksmith’ and ‘USMC’. The full tang hilt has undamaged maple wood scales secured by 4 rivets. The original correct heavy leather scabbard has a brass throat mount, rear leather tab secured by rivets and brass wire hanger. The tab is correctly dated ‘44’ (1944) and stamped ‘USMC’ together with manufacturer name ‘Boyt’. All leather and stitching of the scabbard are intact with no damage. The price includes UK delivery.
