This is a good double barrelled, side by side, 12 bore, boxlock ejector, break action, hammerless shotgun by W.R. Pape of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne. W.R. Pape Manufactured guns from 1857-1870 and is best remembered for inventing the Choke Boring System which Greener went on to develop. The shotgun has steel barrels that are 30 inches long and the overall length is 46 1/2" inches. The metal side plates have etched decoration and are crisply engraved on both sides 'W.R. Pape'. The top of the barrel rib is marked ' W.R. Pape Newcastle-Upon-Tyne Winners Of The London Gun Trials 1858, 1859, 1866, & 1873". It has a brass bead fore sight. The walnut stock is in great condition and has chequered wrist and fore stock. It has a ribbed horn butt plate and double triggers. The weapon’s metal work is in nice undamaged condition with even patina throughout. It breaks and dry fires. It has an safety catch positioned behind the top lever.
