Named British WW1 1916 Brass 1" MK III Trench Flare/ Signal Pistol By W.W. Greener Birmingham Engraved ‘Cambrai 1918’ and With Rifle Regiment Badge Together With Rifle Regiment Officer’s Name ‘F.V. Smith’. Sn 13739 - 13739

The Battle of Cambrai, 1918 was a battle between troops of the British First, Third and Fourth Armies and German Empire forces during the Hundred Days Offensive of the First World War. The battle took place in and around the French city of Cambrai, between 8 and 10 October 1918. The battle incorporated many of the newer tactics of 1918, in particular tanks. This is an excellent British WW1 brass 1" Mk. III Trench flare pistol made by W.W. Greener of Birmingham in 1916. It has its original wooden grips and the butt is holed for lanyard ring. It is nicely stamped on the left side 'W.W. Greener Birmingham, '16' (1916 date) and ' III (Mark 3) with clear proof inspection marks & War Dept arrow. The right side is stamped with Greener’s 'Elephant' trademark and serial number '2187'. The right side is also crisply engraved with a depiction of the badge of a British Rifle Regiment & ‘Cambrai Oct 1918’ in remembrance of the battle together with the name ‘F.V. Smith’ no doubt the name of the British Rifle Regiment Officer who owned this flare pistol and most likely used it during the battle. The pistol strips, cocks and dry fires perfectly. Price includes UK delivery and deactivation certificate. Sn 13739
