1892 Working, Fine Quality, Waltham Vangaurd Railway Pocket Watch Serial 7002345. Sn 12983 - 12983

The American Waltham Watch Company had its beginnings in 1850 in Roxbury, Massachusetts. The company was founded by David Davis, Aaron Dennison, and Edward Howard. Their vision was to form a watch company that could produce high-quality watches at a lower cost using interchangeable parts. With financial backing from Samuel Curtis, of small-arms manufacturing fame, the watch production began in 1851, and the first small group of watches were finished in late 1852. The first watches produced went to officials of the company, and it was not until 1853 that the first watches were offered for sale to the public. This watch, serial number 7002345 was produced in 1892 out of a model run of 7002001-7002400 (399 made). It has a material grade of "P" which is described as 'usually 17-23 jewel watches adjusted to 5 or 6 positions. They almost always have a gold centre wheel and the highest grades have an entirely gold train. The balance wheel usually has gold balance screws, and often has two pair of gold mean-time screws. A "P"-grade balance staff may have two oil grooves and has the finest pivots. The wheel pivots are the finest used on the model'. This watch has 21 jewels, and a screw off back cover plate and screw off front case. The inside of the case has ""Fahys Monarch No 1 Pat April 221879" stamped on it along with serial number "627201" and "29493" etched below it. The mechanism has the serial number "Vanguard Waltham Mass 7002345" stamped and etched onto it. It is in good working condition. It has a white full face behind glass which is in good clear condition. It has a minute hand, hour hand and second hand inside a sub scale. It has "American Waltham Watch Company" in black on the face. The case is very ornately worked in fine scroll and on the reverse it has an image of an American Steam Locomotive in full steam (see one of the photographs). This is a very nice quality American Railway Pocket watch. The price includes UK delivery. Sn 12983
