Museum quality beautiful Webley R.I.C. No 1 in currently obsolete .442" Revolver calibre serial number 22 dated to 1867.
This revolver will be subject to the new antique firearms legislation and from September will become a historic handgun in accordance with sec 7.1 of the 1968 firearms act. As such it can be freely sold or acquired until the September deadline after which it will be necessary to hold it on FAC. This gives an opportunity to acquire this historic piece without the associated paperwork and application before this date.
I am open to sensible offers or if you wish to view.
This particular revolver, cased in it's original Oak blue baize lined box with key, has featured in several well known collections and various publications. Formerly the property of William Chipchase Dowell and pictured in his 1960's book 'The Webley story' and again in the updated version 'Webley revolvers' by Bruce and Reinhart and latterly in Joel Blacks 'Webley solid frame revolvers' pictured when it was in the Joel Black collection.
A fabulous piece of Webley R.I.C history and the subject of many discussions still as to its exact position in the development of the R.I.C. but at serial number 22 is clearly one of the earliest and has been beautifully preserved by its case and care of its previous owners.
Nearly 100 percent original blue and probably only fired for proof it has clearly been kept as a display piece and not used or holstered at any point. I have personally communicated with Mr Black who told me he remembered the gun well and that it was one of the nicest Webleys he had ever owned. The Dowell collection was a famous one, dispersed after his death.
The inert but original. 442 Kynoch drill rounds pictured in the case are extremely rare and are not included but some may be available by separate negotiation.
This revolver is too valuable to risk posting so any purchaser would need to arrange collection or for me to deliver personally if not too far away, a mutual meeting location or similar. Please message me for further information about this beautiful Webley.
