MATCHING MANUFACTURER & REGIMENT MARKS, ROYAL HORSE GUARDS (RHG) WW1 Era 1910-1913 Dated WD 1908 Pattern British WD Heavy Cavalry Troopers Sword By Wilkinson Sword Company (WSC) With Leather Cord & 1911 Dated WSC Scabbard. Sn 14315 - 14315

The Royal Horse Guards ( ‘The Blues & Royals’, The Household Cavalry since 1969) have battle honours stretching back to Tangiers 1662-1680 and include the Battle of Waterloo where they captured the Napoleonic Eagle of the French 105th Infantry Regiment. During the Great War 1914-1918 the Regiment deployed mounted and also served in the trenches as part of the Guards Machine Gun Battalions. Losses were heavy, but contrary to public perception, successful cavalry charges did take place. This is a very good original, WW1 era British 1908 Pattern Heavy Cavalry Troopers Sword & scabbard to the RHG. The Sword has an undamaged 35 " single edged blade with fuller (43" overall). The blade has areas of light staining consistent with age. The ricasso is marked ‘12 ‘10 ( Dec 1910) and ’13 (1913) together with WD inspection marks and the reverse with ‘Wilkinson’ manufacturer’s name and inspection marks. The back of the blade is stamped ’P08’ (1908 Pattern). The bowl guard is marked R.H.G. to the Royal Horse Guards above weapon number number 200. It has the correct stippled dark brown composite grip with thumb recess. The hilt is fitted with its original brown leather cord with tasselled end. It is complete with its original steel scabbard with fixed hanging rings. The scabbard has matching Regiment mark at the throat and is marked by the manufacturer ‘WSC’ (Wilkinson Sword Company) together with WD inspection marks and ’11 (1911) date. The scabbard has even patina and a couple of small dents consistent with age and service use. The price for this sword and scabbard to a prestigious British Cavalry Regiment includes UK delivery.
