    QUALITY**MATCHING NUMBERS ON BARRELS & WOOD**Pair Of 1821-37 William Mills Of London Gentleman’s 54 Bore Percussion Traveling Pistols. Sn 17644 - 17644

    William Mills was an English London based gunmaker with premises at 59 Judd Street, Brunswick Square 1821 & 120 High Holborn 1822-37. In 1837 the Company operated at the same address as Mills and Son until 1843 (see page 185 of British Gunmakers Vol.1 by Brown). This is a fine matching pair of English Gentleman’s 54 Bore Percussion Traveling Pistols by William Mills. The pistols have 4" octagonal barrels (9 ¾” overall), wood ram-rods and original Walnut one piece full stocks with steel furniture decorated with engraved foliate decoration. The stocks have chequered panels at the grips and both have inlaid void silver escutcheons. The barrels smooth bores are clean. The wood and underside of the barrels have all matching numbers ‘1743’ confirming that these pistols were made specifically to be a pair. The top barrel flat of each pistol are signed by the maker ‘W.Mills London’. The steel lock plates are also signed by the maker ‘W.Mills’. The pistols have Dolphin hammers. Their actions are nice and strong. The price for this quality pair of matching pistols includes UK delivery. NB As antique percussion pistols no licence is required to own them in the UK if retained as a part of a collection or display. Sn 17644
