C1830’s English Simmons London Single Barrel 17 Bore Percussion Sporting Shotgun. Sn 14492 - 14492
William Simmons was a London based gunsmith recorded in 1836 as having premises at Chamber Street London (see page 203 of British Gunmakers Vol 1 by Brown). This is an excellent percussion sporting shotgun by Simmons. It has a 32 ¼” round steel barrel stepped to octagonal (47 ½” overall). The barrel’s smooth bore is clean. The muzzle opening is 16.61 mm diameter, approx. 17 Bore. It has a walnut stock with brass fittings. The wood work has just the bumps and bruises to be expected with age. The fore stock has a horn end cap. The action plate is signed ‘Simmons’. The barrel has a small blade foresight and grooved action rear sight. The piece is complete with original wood ramrod with brass end cap and brass tip. It’s cocking and firing actions work perfectly. The price includes UK delivery. NB As an antique percussion firearm no licence is required to own this item in the UK if retained as part of collection or display. Sn 14492
