These instruments were used during WW2 to direct the fire of Artillery Batteries & Machine Gun emplacements. Our example is WD and date marked as per the images together with model designation and manufacturer mark ‘WW’ which is also illustrated in the images. The optics function as they should. The brass casing of the sight is clean and undamaged and it retains its original rubber eye cup and graduated dials. Its original tripod has brass fittings, extendable legs adjusted by brass brackets on each leg. Each leg has a spiked brass ‘foot’. A brass plate on one leg is stamped with manufacturer, model and date detail (illustrated). The legs have a riveted webbing retaining strap with buckle which secures the legs together for transit. The sight is secured to the tripod by a brass screw bolt with wing nut. Un-extended with sight attached, the piece measures 45” height. Extended for use it measures 78” height.
