Ernest E. Hirons was born in 1875. Between 1894 & 1903 he served with the Royal Engineers, service number 28795. He then re-joined after leaving the territorials and was 2nd Lietenant in the Yorkshire Regiment for the duration of WW1 (service number 40514). This is his period trench art mounted walking stick cane. The cane is 37” overall length. The tip is part of a period brass cartridge case. The top is a period adapted inert, WW1 era drop fuse. The fuse has its original graduated markings and ‘Dopp.Zn/a’ mark. The wood shaft is undamaged. The cane is accompanied by Period Sepia Photograph Of The Uniformed Officer Holding The Cane in a group photograph, Additional Images Of His Personal Effects (the other personal effects in the images were not found with the cane when it came to us) & A Previous Owner’s Research information.
