~ WW1 German Mauser Gewehr 98 Butcher’s Bayonet and Scabbard ~
The bayonet is complete with its original steel scabbard and shows significant signs of use.
The blade is stamped with the manufacturer’s name ‘ANKER-WERKE BIELEFELD’ AND SERIAL NUMBERED 355.
The edge of the ricasso is stamped only with the imperial proof mark. Same mark is present on the pommel and the locket of the scabbard (stamped with a pair, one on each side of the mouth).
~ Dimensions ~
The blade length is 14.45 inches (36.5 cm) and the overall length of the bayonet is 19½ inches (49.5 cm).
The bayonet in its scabbard length is 20½ inches (52 cm).
It weighs 875 grams.
~ Condition ~
The blade is in fair condition with significant signs of polish and sharpening.
The safety catch button works fine.
The grips have been polished over time. One side has some chips, as seen in the pictures.
The scabbard has a number of dents and it has been polished at one point in time for preservation purposes.
