~ WW2 Era Militarised 19th Century Civilian Katana ~
Here we have a very unique item, a Katana with a civilian blade and civilian scabbard that has been wrapped in the military fashion without being fully converted, what we can assume from this is that this is a late war measure when there was neither the time nor the money to spare militarising this sword, in its way it is a different kind of ‘desperation sword’ to the ones we usually see.
The sword is mounted with a white shagreen, a black fabric wrap with its civilian menuki that appears to depict a bird, the tsuba is of plain iron and the blade steel with a faint impression where the hamon used to be before polishing.
Overall a strange combination with a nice history to it and a blade that can be dated by the mokers signature on the tang.

The blade is 27.5 inches (70 cm) long.
The sword is 37 inches (90 cm) long.
