The Pattern 1856 was issued to all Sergeants of Line Regiments & the Rifle Brigade. This is an excellent volunteer officer’s private purchase Enfield Pattern 1856 short rifle. The action is dated 1859 & is marked ‘Tower’ (Enfield) together with Victorian Queen’s Crown. It has all original woodwork with steel butt plate, sling swivels, trigger guard, bayonet lug, fore end cap together with ramrod. The wood has chequered panels at the fore stock and wrist indicating this is a private purchase weapon. The wood has knocks bumps and bruises consistent with age and service use. It has a flip up rear sight, block & blade foresight. The 33” rifled barrel’s bore has staining and residue consistent with age & use. The barrel has proof inspection marks. The cocking & firing actions work crisply. The price includes UK delivery.
