Create my profile now!The Pattern 1897 British Infantry swords were a great improvement on previous patterns with better protection to the hand through its ¾ basket hilt (see page 179 of World Swords by Withers & pages 165-167 of Swords of the British Army by Robson). This is a very good Pattern 1897 British WD Infantry Officer's Sword with Field Scabbard & Sword Frog made in the 1970’s. The Sword has a 32" single edged blade with fullers (38 ¼” overall). The blade is clean with etched & blued panels to both sides. The blade is engraved with Queen’s Crown ER II and heraldic arms devices. The ricasso is marked by the manufacturer Robert Allison & Son Glasgow Scotland’. The blade has proof star and leather hilt washer. It has an ornate bowl guard with stylised QE II Royal Cypher and undamaged gilt wire bound leather covered grip together with stepped steel pommel. The guard has period hand inscribed 1978 date, 'RA' (Robert Allison maker) WD arrow and stores codes. The guard is fitted with plaited leather cord and acorn knot. It is complete with its leather covered field scabbard and sword frog with brass fittings. all leather & stitching are intact. The throat mount of the scabbard has WD arrow, ‘79’ date (1979) ‘WS’ (Wilkinson Sword) and stores code. The price includes UK delivery. Sn 19264
