This is an example of a two band sergeants’ musket serving with the colonial troops in Nepal.
The barrel bears a War department inspector’s mark and an Enfield inspectors mark.
The lock plate remains unmarked.
The brass stock butt plate is stamped with Nepalese characters and the wooden stock bears a number of arsenal marks which were stamped, deleted and re-stamped again.
~ Dimensions ~
The barrel is 33 inches (84 cm) long and the overall length of the musket is 45 ¾ inches (123.5 cm).
It weighs 3.35 Kg.
~ Condition ~
The musket is in fair used condition for its age.
The metalwork developed a patina and the wooden stock has the expected bruises and usage marks.
There is also a more serious splinter underneath the lock. Please see the pictures.
The hammer half cocks, cocks and releases.
The bore has some surface rust and usage marks.
