Description

INERT DEACTIVATED. This is an original, 1886 dated 10 round service pack of ball cartridges for .577 Snider rifles and carbines manufactured by D.C. The rounds have an iron base with a brass cup which is crimped onto a buff paper cartridge case. The rounds are loaded with a 480 grain soft lead bullet and originally had a charge of 70 grains of black powder as a propellant. The 10 rounds are in their original buff paper wrapper tied with a piece of green and white coloured string. The buff wrapper has printed in black CARTRIDGES S.A. BALL B.L. SNIDER ARM D.C. (in a lozenge) 1886 (date). These rounds were originally brought back by Reuben Reeds of Ontario, Canada who was a volunteer in the Royal Canadian Regiment in 1899 and after his service in the Royal Canadian Regiment in the South Africa in the Boer War, he was allowed to keep his Snider Rifle and a full box of ammunition. This is part of the ammunition Mr Reeds was allowed to keep. We have a copy of a letter which is available to the purchaser of these rounds. The price for this original Snider 10 round service pack includes UK delivery and no licence is required to possess these inert rounds in the UK if retained as part of a collection or display.
