The Remington Rolling Block rifle was a breech-loading rifle produced from the mid-1860s into the early 20th century by E. Remington and Sons (later Remington Arms Company). The action was extremely strong, and could easily withstand the increased pressure of the new smokeless powders coming into use by the late 1880s. In .43 Spanish (11mm) UK obsolete calibre it was the chief service arm of the Spanish Army from 1869–1893, and was used by reserve and militia forces for many years thereafter. This Spanish Military contract has a 34 ½” barrel (50 ½” overall). The barrel shank is stamped ‘FB’ above ‘R’. The barrel's rifled bore has just light staining consistent with age and use and well defined rifling. The rifle has an external hammer, cleaning rod, sling swivels, block and blade fore sight and ladder rear sight. The all original woodwork and metal work in excellent condition and the metal has excellent blue finish. The action tang has Remington’s patents (illustrated). It's loading and firing actions work crisply. The rifle is accompanied by 1 x inert deactivated brass cased round of .43 Spanish calibre ammunition. The headstamp of the casing reads ‘.43 Spanish NDFS’. The price includes UK delivery. As an antique obsolete calibre rifle no licence is required to own this item in the UK if retained as part of a collection or display. Sn 20734
