**QUALITY**English 1808-1824 King London Queen Anne Style Flintlock Traveling Pocket Pistol With 50 Bore Screw Off Cannon Barrel, Stock With Inlaid Silver Wire Decoration & Heavy Silver ‘Grotesque Face’ Butt Plate. Sn 21393:43 - 21393:43

Thomas King was a London based gunmaker with premises ar Hammersmith 1808-1818 & High Street, Staines 1823-24 (see page 176 of British Gunmakers Vol.1 by Brown). This is a fine flintlock pistol in the Queen Anne style by King London (most likely Thomas, the only flintlock period London maker named King in Brown’s book). It is 7¼” overall length with 2”, turn off cannon barrel. The barrel’s smoothbore is clean. The underside of the action and barrel have crisp black powder proofs / inspection marks. A tool is required to turn off the barrel, we do not have the tool. The action has foliate engraved decoration with scrolling banners. The left banner is signed ‘King’ & the right ‘London’. It has a Swan neck cock fitted with flint. The cocking and firing mechanism works crisply. The original walnut stock is excellent & undamaged. The stock has elaborate inlaid silver wire decoration and it has a silver 'grotesque Face' butt plate. The price for this elegant pistol includes UK delivery. NB As an antique flintlock pistol no licence is required to own this item in the UK if retained as a part of a collection or display. Sn 21393:43
