A scarce Belgian or Dutch sea service officer's Flintlock Pistol of large calibre approx .70 Cal. Circa 1820-1830. These pistols were carried by both Naval and military personnel during the late 18th/early 19th century. The lock plate marked with the letter W with a crown above. Typical military brass trigger guard, fore-end cap and butt-cap mounted with a steel lanyard ring. 9 inch barrel stamped with a crown above the letter B. During the 18th and 19th century the British Navy along with other European nations began investing heavily in their Naval small arms as Naval superiority had become so very important during the Peninsular wars with France. One such weapon was this Sea Service officer's flintlock pistol. These weapons were used by the Belgian and Dutch navies throughout the various Wars of the 19th century. Some minor dings and scratches to the stock during its working life, otherwise in good used condition. Action in working order. Overall length approx 15 inches. Ref 3217. An extremely fine pistol.
