Mills of London. Circa 1830. The makers name W. Mills engraved on the lock-plate. William Mills had a workshop at 120 High Holborn, London circa 1821-1844. 9 inch octagonal barrel of large bore (approx .54 cal) and engraved W. Mills London. V shaped rear sight. Two British proof marks stamped under the barrel. The finely chequered walnut butt fitted with an oval silver escutcheon. The hooked breech barrel held into the stock with two iron cross-bolts with silver escutcheons to either side of the stock. Engraved iron trigger guard and two iron ramrod pipes. Brass tipped ramrod. Nice crisp action with a very strong spring. Some minor dings/scratches to the stock, light pitting to the barrel otherwise in reasonably good well used condition. Overall length approx 14 inches.
