The 3.5 inch blued barrel with bead foresight, steel ejector rod to the right side and engraved with the makers name F. Escoffier Entrep. Felix Escoffier was a Armourer and entrepreneur of much note in St Etienne during the reign of Napoleon III, he worked circa 1852-1871. Entrepreneurs were often people to whom the state granted the operation of an arms factory. Undertaking large contracts for the military and in addition entrepreneurs could manufacture weapons under their own name for sale in the the civilian sector. The two piece wooden grips secured with a central screw and iron butt with a swivel lanyard ring. Swing up loading gate. The makers own mark to the cylinder. Action in good working order. In good condition retaining much of it's original blued finished to the barrel. A few minor dings and scratches to the frame during it's working life. Overall length 8 inches. Ref 3534. A very rare Medieval Main-Gauche or left hand dagger, probably Saxon, German circa 1600-1650. Two slightly down drooping short cross-guards fitted with an integral side-ring counter guard. The blade with re-inforced section at the forte. Large ovoid pommel. Grip of leather and still retains its original iron re-enforcing bands at top and bottom of the grip. In very good overall condition. Blade length 11 inches. Length 15 inches overall. This is an exceptional and classic Medieval Main-Gauche dagger.
