Circa 1830. The lock plate engraved D. Egg. Durs Egg worked circa 1748-1831. He was a gun maker originally from Switzerland and spent some of his apprenticeship years in Paris. He came over to England in the 1770s and set up his work-shop in Princess Street, London in 1778. In 1786 he moved to Coventry Street, then to 132 Strand and finally to 1 Pall Mall London. After his death in 1831 the business was continued under his sons using their fathers name D. EGG. The sighted 4 inch octagonal barrel engraved LONDON A-N 9007. An oblong shaped escutcheon fitted to the rear of grip. Captive swivel ramrod. Dolphin hammer. Traditionally engraved iron trigger guard. Action in good working order. Overall length 8.5 inches. Some minor dings and scratches during it's working life, otherwise in good condition. Ref 4025. This is an obsolete antique item and is sold as a collectors item only.
