WW2 US 1944 Dated Springfield Model 1903 Rifle, Sling, Springfield 1908 Bayonet & Scabbard With Webbing & Leather Frog With Belt Bar. Sn 10923:1 - 10923:1

The M1903 Springfield, formally the United States Rifle, Calibre .30-06, Model 1903, is an American clip loaded, 5 shot, bolt-action service rifle used primarily during the first half of the 20th century. It was officially adopted as a United States military bolt action rifle on June 19, 1903, and saw service in World War 1. It was officially replaced as the standard infantry rifle by the faster firing semi-automatic 8 round M1 Garand starting in 1937. However, the M1903 Springfield remained in service as a standard issue infantry rifle during World War 2, since the U.S. entered the war without sufficient M1 rifles to arm all troops. It also remained in service as a sniper rifle during World War 2, the Korean War, and even in the early stages of the Vietnam War. This rifle is in superb condition, It's metalwork is undamaged with excellent original finish and it's woodwork is complete and undamaged. It is crisply stamped on the breech housing 'U.S. Springfield Armory Model 1903' and serial '997442'. The muzzle end of the barrel is date marked '2-44' (Feb 1944) and with the Frankford Arsenal ignited grenade mark together with 'HS'. It strips, cocks and dry fires perfectly. It has a steel butt plate with trap, bayonet lug, block & blade fore sight, adjustable ladder rear sight and is fitted with original leather sling. The rifle comes with an original 1908 Springfield Armoury bayonet. The bayonet with fullered blade is undamaged as is it's wood grips and steel pommel. The blade is marked 'SA' (Springfield Armoury) and '1908' date. The hilt has a retaining clip with push button release. The original scabbard is undamaged. It has and has an original webbing and leather frog with steel wire belt bar. The price includes deactivation certificate and UK delivery. Sn 10923:1
