~ Very Rare 1849 Colt Pocket .31 Cal Revolver With Steel Trigger Guard ~
The revolver has a 6" barrel and is chambered for 6 .31" calibre rounds.
It has a serial number of 210172 which dates it to 1862, so it is an early U.S Civil War piece (1862 starts with the serial number 197000 and 1863 starts with the serial number 223000).
This is a very unusual Pocket Colt, very desirable to an antique Colt collector. It is special because the back strap and trigger guard are made of steel instead of the usual brass.
This Colt is therefore one of a very limited number that used up the remaining parts from the then recently closed London Colt factory.
Due to the limited numbers made we can go as far as describing this piece as at least scarce if not rare. Apparently only a few hundred of them where made thus.
The revolver has matching serial numbers on the the butt, trigger guard, frame and barrel. The top of the barrel is stamped "Address Col Saml Colt New-York USA America" and the left side of the frame is stamped Colts Patent.
~ Dimensions ~
The overall length of the Colt is 11 inches (28 cm) and the barrel length is 6 inches (15.3 cm).
~ Condition ~
The finish is decent with a fair brown patina and the grips are undamaged bar a small chip on the upper right one. Some of the cylinder scene is preserved although a section of it has unfortunately been cleaned, probably to expose the serial number. One screw is a modern replacement. The action is tight and crisp, the cylinder rotates faultlessly.
~ Postage ~
UK postage is £22 or the revolver can be collected from our shop in Portsmouth Historic Dockyard.
