A RARE WW2 BRITISH OFFICER 5TH GURKHA ( FRONTIER FORCE ) RIFLES PRESENTATION KUKRI TO A MAJOR IN THE 5TH GURKHA RIFLES WITH ITS ORIGINAL SHEATH CUSTOM MADE FOR THIS OFFICER AND BOTH ORIGINAL CHAKMAKS
Overall nice original and complete condition.
This has been in my own collection for over fourty years purchased from Billy Tagg at Leeds Militaria Fair.
It is a rare and unusual and totally Kukri that is why I bought it.
This has the impressive original large presentation plaque stamped "MAJ B S GREEN 5 GR" with small kukris decoration affixed the sheath and also has 5 GR stamped on the metal bands on the handle. The only way that could be done is to stamp the metal bands before they were wrapped around the handle so the kukri was custom made as a presentation item not a standard kukri with additions.
The 5th Gurkha ( Frontier) Force Rifles is one of the British Gurkha Rifle Regiments that was transferred to the Indian Army in 1947.
This a wide, heavy and long fullered military blade is about 31.5 cm long measured in a straight line not on the curve... which has been presentation plated and the metal fittings on the handle have also been presentation plated. The both original chakmaks have also been plated.
Some wear to the plating on both chakmaks, with odd small areas of wear to the plating on the blade and slight wear to the plating on the ferrule on the hilt, and surface wear to one side of the small flap on the back otherwise overall nice original and complete condtion
A very nice original and complete of a rare presentation kukri to a British Major Officer of the Gurkha Rifles
