C1840 .34 Calibre Gran Puly Dreyse Needlefire Carbine With Octagonal Barrel. Sn 12887 - 12887

The first mass-produced needle gun was invented by the German gunsmith Johann Nicolaus von Dreyse, who, beginning in 1824, had conducted multiple experiments, and in 1836 produced the first viable breech loading gun model using a complete cartridge. This is a nice carbine with dreyse form needlefire mechanism. It measures 35” overall length and has a blued 19” octagonal barrel. The bore is clean with crisp rifling. It has all original wood furniture with figured cheek piece and chequered wrist panels. The stock has a single sling stud and the barrel has a fixed sling ring. It has an adjustable rear sight and blade fore sight. The barrel is numbered ‘7124’ and the breech is marked ‘Cal.34 6 Gran Puly’. The loading and firing mechanisms work as they should. Price includes UK delivery. NB as an antique obsolete calibre weapon no licence is required to own this item in the UK if retained as part of a collection or display. Sn 12887
