James Champion was an English gunmaker recorded as working from Chichester Sussex between 1823 & 1845 (see page 189 of British Gunmakers Vol 2 by Brown).This is an excellent English Champion Chichester 32 bore Percussion Travelling Pistol. It has a 5 ¼” sighted octagonal brown wash steel barrel engraved ‘Chichester’. The action with foliate engraved decoration is signed ‘Champion’. The all original full stock has a chequered grip. The top of the wrist has a vacant white metal escutcheon, brass topped wooden ramrod with worm and screw off brass cap. The barrel’s smooth bore is clean. Its action works as it should.
