This is an original 1855 Prussian Infantry Pioneer’s short swords with its original scabbard The sword is 1 ¾” broad (at the widest), 19” long, heavy single edged blade measuring 24 ¾” overall. The sword has a rugged brass handle deeply grooved for grip with ball pommels and the straight cross guards with rolled ends. Both blades have Imperial inspection marks on one side for Saxony a Crown over AR (Albert) and the manufacturer mark for Weyersberg Kirschbaum & Cie AG (WKC), Solingen on the other. The spine of the hilt and crossguard are stamped with the Imperial German crown. The ricasso is regimentally stamped 102.R.2.53 and the throat mount of the scabbard is marked 102.R.3.196 (102nd (3rd Royal Saxon) Infantry King Ludwig III of Bavaria). The scabbard is made of leather with a brass locket and chape. The leather of each scabbard has wear to be expected but all leather and stitching are intact.
